How we compile and verify LLC fee data
Every fee on this site is compiled from multiple reputable sources, scored for cross-source agreement, and spot-verified against official Secretary of State fee schedules. This page explains exactly how.
Who’s behind this site
LLC Cost by State is an independent publisher operated by VentureCorp, Inc. We are not a formation service, a law firm, or a state agency, and we do not accept payment to alter any fee figure. The site exists to answer one question accurately: what does an LLC actually cost in each state?
Where our data comes from
| Data | Source | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Filing & report fees (50 states) | Four reputable compiled sources, cross-checked | The base fee table; every field scored for cross-source agreement |
| Official verification | State Secretary of State fee schedules & official forms (15 states verified, incl. DE/SD/KS on 2026-06-10 and NV/IN/VT on 2026-06-11; the NE biennial fee — which the SoS does not publish — is cited to the Nebraska Attorney General) | Overrides the compiled value wherever an official source was readable |
| Processing times | Single compiled source | Indicative only — never presented as guaranteed |
How we calculate
Each fee field carries a confidence grade: official (confirmed from a state source), high (3+ compiled sources agree exactly), medium (majority agree), or low (sources split — the page shows the consensus value with a visible pending-verification note until an official check clears it). Special costs that are not Secretary of State fees — California's $800 FTB franchise tax, New York's publication requirement, Texas and Alabama franchise/privilege-tax returns, Nevada's three-part bundle — are modeled separately so the headline filing fee stays comparable across states.
Independence & how we make money
Some links on this site may be affiliate links to business-service partners; if you buy through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Partners never see or influence fee data, and no placement is for sale. Fee figures come only from the sources above.
Keeping it current
State fees move on fiscal-year boundaries (July 1 / January 1 clusters). We re-run the full compilation quarterly; figures are currently verified as of Q2 2026. Each state page carries this date.
